In her Ted Talk, she explains how technology is a growing aspect in our lives and how the new generation, who has grown up with this technology, is affected by it. She explains how computers and cell phones have altered the way people communicate with each other and how they live. She has a very negative view on how new generations are affected negatively by technology and how it affected interpersonal relationships. I personally partly disagree with her. I agree that technology has changed the way we live and has affected our relationships, but now necessarily in a negative way. Turkle argues that new generations not only have a harder time connecting with people because they are always digitally connected, but also have a hard time being alone by themselves. She also says how they are too busy to connect, create and even think. I personally think technology gives us a great opportunity to be alone and be creative. How many times have you spent a day at home, looking at blogs, interview of artists you admire and just getting inspired by images and content you see on the internet. Also, i believe technology actually helps us connect. I am not talking about social networking websites like Facebook or Instagram where it’s a sort of”fake” connection. I refer to what people ca do with the internet to allow them to connect, even at the other end of the world. You can send an email and pictures on drop box to your aunt in France faster than ever. Technology destroys the distance barriers and i think it helps people connect more. However, one should not abuse of a good thing. I agree some people abuse of technology and replace actual interpersonal relationship with virtual ones, but for the majority it helps us connect. I believe technology helps us connect virtually between each other to after connect better and faster in real life.
